| LMFF RUNWAY 6

runway six last night, the last event on my calendar for fashion week, and if i'm honest it was rather a disappointing end.
presented by frankie, the show consisted of:
alice mccall
alpha60
dhini
gorman
karen walker
kate sylvester
limedrop
and nevenka.

the greats performed well, alpha60, karen walker and gorman being the highlights.
prints seem to be back, and a brighter colour palette than we've seen in a while. lots of oranges and greens, baby blues and metallic finishings.

i think what really broke the show was whoever styled the runway, poor pattern and colour mixing turned individually great pieces, into eyesore outfits.
never the less, it was a great night anyway, the buzz of fashion at runways is like nothing else.

| LMFF MENSWEAR RUNWAY 2011

last night was lmff's first ever menswear runway, and it was quite the show.
complete with choreographed dancing and celebrity appearances and clothing to make me seriously consider a sex change,
exhibited were:
Farage
Alpha60
Autonomy
Campaign
Three over One
Vanishing Elephant
From Britten
and Arthur Galan.

this season in menswear is seeing
i) many an elbow patch,
ii) patchwork in general.
iii) the use of prints in multi-colourways in a single garment,
iv) structured collars and a revamped turtleneck,
and v) a new variety of luxurious little trimmings and accessories, from contrast lapels and pocket flaps to suspenders and double vents, in a desirable range of textures including, leather, suede and fur linings !

all in all, an incredible array of menswear and fine male forms, which has me wondering, where in melbourne all these creatures and clothes hide during the week.

| CATALYST.

the business seminar provided not only an earful of charming accents but hours of new ideas and thought.
Mikael Schiller the managing director of acne studios, told the epic tale of how acne studios came to be, from where the name or acronym rather, originated from, what their vision was to how acne is known and run now.
Jefferson Hack, co-founder of the dazed group, told his tale of the origins of dazed and confused magazine.
their stories, along with the insight of Jan Nord & Jorgen Andersson from esprit (formerly from h&m), and Graeme Fidler of bally all sent the same message.
for a label or brand to be successful, whether it is fashion, media or something else, it needs to tell a story.

so here begins a new story,
i welcome you.
